Keep movin', ain't nothing to see here...
So I’m looking down at my arm one day while working at the computer and I notice that the side of my elbow is really swollen. No pain or anything, well the usual stiffness which I associated with too much mouse and computer work but maybe not. Anyway, had the embassy docs look at it when they came out on their monthly visit and they decided they wanted to see an MRI. So besides working in the Nairobi office, getting this test was the other reason to be in Nairobi. Turns out it is a large Lipoma. It will have to come out but they are saying it’s not serious. Don’t know yet when or where to get it done, I’m not really keen on the Kenyan doctors, I’d need convincing to have it done here, maybe South Africa, I’ll let you know.

Dorathy, we ain't in Kansas anymore!
You can get anything you need in Kisumu but you can get anything you want in Nairobi. Nairobi is a big city. 5 million people, not one traffic light in the whole town! Beyond bad traffic jams. Criminals have been known to take the side mirror off your car while you sit in traffic! It's every man for himself, if you can imagine a freeway where pedestrians and bikes are allowed and its nothing to have to drive up on the sidewalk or create your own lane. And as one friend remarked seriously, he hadn't swiped anyone yet...this week.

I haven't been traveling on my own in a long time. I am missing everyone already and i haven't boarded the plane yet!

Our New House...NOT!
And so it goes. The landlord of the house we were supposed to move into has decided to tear it down and instead build condos. Figures. So we are left with two chioces now, none of which are that appealing. One is this so called 'pink' house (although Esther would love it since the only color there is that matters is pink) which is a monstrosity near a crime and malaria prone area, I think not, and the so called Compound. It'w were most all the other Americans live. If you've ever been to Florida and seen some of those gated communities it's a sort of smaller version of one of those. Actually the houses are really nice, very new, very spacious. The really problem is privacy. The homes sit just a couple feet from each other. The kids will love it I think. All their friends mostly live there.

Our New House?
Well...there it is...our new house…sort of. You like? Yea, I know it’s big. You should know that it is extremely rundown. It’s gonna need to be totally gutted, needs new roof, new 9 foot
security wall, landscaping, etc. And all before end of January. Can the landlord do it? Yes he can!! Or so he says. If it’s one thing I have learned about third world countries besides don’t drink the water is never assume anything (which is true anywhere but here it’s REALLY true) and anything can happen (which is true anywhere but REALLY true here too) so we shall see. If the embassy signs the contract, if he starts excavating on time, if…if…if. It actually has the potential to be an amazing house though, but I won’t get my hopes up just yet.
