WAM Kisumu

First of December is World AIDS Day and in Kisumu for the past three years there is a Marathon with proceeds going to various AIDS charity causes. This year I was only the planning committee and it was a lot of fun. Below is the T-shirt logo I created for the event.
The committee was able to get Mama Sarah Obama (Barak's grandmother) to flag off the runners start. She also cut the ribbon to open the new children's playground in the central park that last years marathon sponsored. The below photo was on the front page of the Kenyan newspaper. By the way, most of the kids in this picture are from Max's school!

The night before the marathon the committee invited Mama Sarah for dinner. Here she is pictured with Betty from the committee.

Kenyan runners are of course famous and there were several professional runners in the race who are really amazing but the most amazing runners to me are these wheelchair runners. There were eight of them this year. A wheelchair in Kenya for the most part means these things that look like upside down bikes and you move them by "peddling" with your hands. So these guys would "peddle" for 42 kilometers!!
